Spoken English as a subject has not gained impetus and we have not been exposed to it too much, primarily because we have been exposed only to written English for large part of life. The little English that most of us speak is filled with wrong pronunciations, grammatical mistakes, and a monotone. With the dawn of 21st century, the Indian corporate world has become more globalized, competitive and uses high standards at par with the world. Speaking in global English is now considered a necessity to project a competent and confident professional image. Our experience in teaching English comes largely from the years spent in speaking to and with native speakers of English and communicating our ideas to them effectively. This means that the standard we set for ourselves is the highest, to speak clearly and fluently in comparison to a native speaker.
